August Bulletin 2023
Hi Rotarians, here's the latest newsletter. We've had a lot happen this last couple of months.
The big news from the last couple of months was change over. Jamie finished his year and Wendy has started her year. It was a good night with great attendance and a significant showing from other Rotarians from other districts. Thank you to everyone who made it such a bright night and special thanks go to Fee, Robyn, Wendy and Jamie for doing what they did to make it a great night. Monte Carlo is our next big thing and that's this coming Saturday night. See the link below for your tickets. Then after that, Carnival of Flowers. We had a meeting at the Good Samaritan College recently which is one of the best meetings we've had for a long time. This continues on with our theme of diversity and inspiration with our morning meetings. If you have any good guest speakers who you would like to bring along to a meeting, please let Wendy know.

This years Rotary theme is: Create Hope in the World. The address from the new RI President Gordan McInally is here.

A reminder that August is one of those months that has five Wednesdays in the month, so there will be no meeting on 30 August. (But be sure to put in your diary 6 September for our first meeting of next month where the District Governor Paul Roger will be attending).

Change Over Dinner
Our change over at the Toowoomba Golf Club was a real success. As always, with great nights like this, a lot of work goes into the background and big thanks to Fee, Robyn, Wendy and Jamie for their organisation. Our MC Paul did a fine job and kept everyone interested and threw in some good quality laughs along the way. Jamie presented his annual report which can be found here. It was a good year for the club and this melded into the induction of Wendy and her new Board. Wendy has some great ideas for the new year and already, at the time of writing this, they are in full swing. Amanda, our guest speaker from Protea Place did a wonderful job. She was enthusiastic, passionate about her subject and really enlivened us. A very special thank you to all those other Rotarians from other clubs who travelled from near and far to join us and it really made a special vibe for the evening. Our fundraising endeavours on the night brought some good additions to the club coffers - it's amazing how generous people are after a couple of wines and the ability to tap a card. Wendy has now donned the sombrero and bring on a fantastic year.

Our Monte Carlo night is getting very close. 26 August at Cobb and Co. That's this Saturday night!!  This is probably our biggest fundraiser of the year apart from RTR. Please get on board this magical event that's been spearheaded by Corin and his team and in conjunction with our good mates at the Darling Downs Cricket 2020 Canon Photos where you're also support momentum mental health. The Good Samaritan Breakfast

Toowoomba Metro engaging with Community - supporting the educators of local youth, to engage them and their families as productive, valued community members.

Toowoomba Metropolitan Rotary team were privileged to have the Good Samaritan College Hospitality students provide us with breakfast for our meeting 16th August 2023. This College accommodates the needs of High school age students who struggle with mainstream education facilities. Their vision is to empower each member of their school community to gain success through industry, the success rate is impressive with approx. 95% graduating with skills, knowledge, and the ability to apply those in a workplace or tertiary education setting.

The passion, respectfulness and compassion for the students and their families of their Principal Libby Rosentreter, Past Principal Maryanne Walsh OAM, of Centenary Heights High School and the Toowoomba Flexi School, (Toowoomba Rotary clubs supported through Mentoring etc) and Dr Pat Coughlan was inspirational.

Toowoomba Metropolitan members identified how in the short term we can support the programs and school community, and many sustainable suggestions were made by members to explore further options to partner with the college team. We are looking forward to a long and lasting collaboration.

Rotary in action, we have a very proactive and responsive team at Toowoomba Metro.

Pictured are the Toowoomba Metro club members, our RYLA applicant Gabriel Burrows, Libby Rosentreter, Maryanne Walsh OAM and Dr Patrick Coughlan.

Carnival of Flowers 2023
The Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers (TCOF) is just around the corner. The parade is on the 16th of September. For years now, we've been actively involved in the Carnival by preparing a float and walking in the procession. It's a brilliant day where we Rotarians and our families get involved and then we all catch up for a social activity afterwards. There's a bit of work that goes into that and we had a working be this Sunday just gone, where our creative minds were at their best. If you haven't been involved orare not involved, we would encourage you to talk to Craig or Miriam – this year's Project Managers – and see where you can lend your support. This years theme is bees, hives and spring (of course).
